EdPuzzle

In 4th of Primary, we are currently learning about daily routines and times. The video used and modified with EdPuzzle, will help my students to practice and consolidate the contents taught in class as well as learn new vocabulary and social language from the conversation that occurs on the video. I have to mention that the video exceeds the 4 minutes but to cut it, it had meant to cut the end of the conversation.

The objectives will be:

-          To practice the vocabulary about daily routines.

-          To learn new vocabulary about to daily routines.

-          To listen and understand messages in an oral interactions about daily routines.

-          To learn about social language used in every day interactions.

This activity will be easily related to the Evaluation Criteria 2.1 - To identify the essential information of oral texts, transmitted orally or by technological means, short and simples, about daily and specific topics where experiences, necessities and interests are expressed in different contexts such as tales, stories, personal anecdotes, etc.

Due to the current situation of pandemic, this year I have practice with my students, from the very beginning, to work using online platforms, like Google Classroom, so they are used to watch videos sent in advance. Like I said before, vocabulary and structures have been learned in the classroom through online flashcards, listen to the unit story and other several activities. Before sending the video, expectations and purposes were explained to the pupils. As a post-learning activity, I always love to have them make their own dialogues using everything they have learn (in a simple way, they are fourth graders).

Motivation is always a great value when working with online activities and, on top of everything, they have the chance to go over the video as many times as they may need. EdPuzzle is such a useful tool since it allows us to cut, edit and add questions and/or content to any of the huge amount of videos we have on YouTube.

One way to improve and to have the most of it, it would be a good idea to ask the students (at some point, maybe in older courses) to make their own EdPuzzle, adding their own questions and, even, sharing with the other students.

Comments

  1. Congratulations for this video! I consider that it is interesting to review the daily routine and the hours. Furthermore, students pay attention and they are motivated. It is another way of reviewing this content.
In relation with your blog, from my point of view is easy to navigate, intuitive. The only aspect that could be improved is to add a little color to the background, but congratulations again for your blog and your activities!

Christmas is coming!!

December is almost here and we are planning to make several activities to celebrate this special time of the year. First of all, we need to get ready and learn some vocabulary related to the festivity.   Please, make sure you pronounce the words properly. If you have any question about this matter, you always can use https://www.wordreference.com/ to check the phonetics.   Moreover, we are doing a traditional letter to Santa Claus. Have you been good this last year? I´m sure you were. Remember, do not ask for much just a couple of things. You can fill the gaps in this template.      Next time we will learn some traditional carols.

Final Task

I have chosen the Edpuzzle task from Sinead´s blog https://sineadenglishteacher.blogspot.com/ , mainly for two reasons: 1.        The first one, like I already explained in the “Interaction activity”, I think Sinead writes wonderful and well redacted analysis throughout every post for each task. 2.        Among all the apps, resources and/or websites we have been taught in this course, I find Edpuzzle like the more applicable in my classes right now. It saves time, it is easy and intuitive, and students love it.

Reading Habits

Checking out my own experience as a reader, I must confess that I feel like an inconstant one. I mainly read for pleasure when I have the enough time to do it, to really enjoy it, to get the most of it. This means, long holidays or weekends when I do not have much to do (stating this at the same time than saying I´m a teacher and a father of a second grader, it implies I do not have too much time for myself). When reading in my mother tongue, I basically read novels, comics, articles from blogs or news… Reading in English is a totally different story. Normally I choose articles related to my background knowledge as well as those which match my level of language proficiency. In addition to that, I must be completely 100% focus on the task, otherwise, I lose track. Sometimes in the past, trying to go over a historic novel it became a frustrating activity due to my lack of specific knowledge of vocabulary. As a result, I gave up reading it and now I have decorating my shelves a ve...
